cimientos 23 de febrero.
Excmo. Señor:
Como continuación a la información telegráfi
ca remitida a V.E. el pasado día 16 de marzo, adjunto
tengo a honra enviar el texto de la moción "Spanish
Democracy" con la lista de los 200 diputados de todas
las tendencias que la han suscrito. Dicha moción sigue
abierta a la firma y es probable continue recibiendo más
adhesiones.
Igualmente remito a V.E. fotocopia de la car
ta que el Secretario General del Partido Laborista, Ron
Hayword, ha dirigido al Director de la Casa de España en
Londres expresando su satisfacción por el fracaso del
intento golpista en España y manifestando su apoyo a la
democracia española en términos semejantes a los de la
moción parlamentaria antes mencionada.

That this House expresses its profound relief and satisfaction that the recent attempt
at coup d'état in Spain was defeated, and recognises that King Juan Carlos played a vital
role in defending the institutions of Spanish democracy, thereby preventing a civil war;
is keenly aware, however, that Spain's democracy remains vulnerable to further military
adventures; upholds the right of the Spanish people to live under the democratic constitu-
tion approved by referendum; will do everything in its power to preserve and protect
democracy and the right of all Spaniards to live in peace and liberty and further supports
the efforts of all democratic and parliamentary forces in Spain to safeguard and strengthen
their country's democratic institutions.

Dear Sir,
I am writing to convey to you our great relief and satisfaction that
the recent attempt at coup d'etat in Spain was defeated. We believe
the King Juan Carlos played a vital role in defending the institutions
of Spanish democracy and preventing a return to civil war.
We believe, however, that threats to Spain's elected government still
remain. For our part we are watching carefully the political situation
in Spain and we are prepared to do everything in our power to preserve
and protect democracy and the rights of working people to freely organise
in Spain.
We uphold the right of the Spanish people to live under the democratic
constitution they have approved in a referendum. There must be no
return to Franco. We fully support the efforts of all democratic and
socialist forces in Spain to safeguard and strengthen the country's
democratic institution.
